Digital advertising giant accelerates smart roadside network with major expansion

Digital out-of-home advertising specialist Route Media has strengthened its technology-led network with the launch of four new premium digital roadside screens at two of Cardiff’s busiest commuter gateways.

The investment reinforces the company’s position as one of the UK’s fastest-growing digital out-of-home (DOOH) operators, expanding a network of more than 1,000 digital and static roadside, rail and retail advertising sites across Wales and Northern Ireland.

Two large-format digital screens have been installed at Culverhouse Cross, with a further two unveiled at Queensgate Roundabout in Cardiff Bay.

Located on the A4232 Cardiff Link Road, the sites capture traffic travelling between Cardiff city centre, Cardiff Bay, the M4 and the Vale of Glamorgan, delivering exposure across more than 100,000 vehicle movements every day and creating one of South Wales’ most significant premium digital advertising opportunities.

The expansion strengthens Route Media’s growing presence across the Welsh capital, complementing digital advertising opportunities at Cardiff Bus Interchange and across the wider Transport for Wales estate to create one of the country’s most comprehensive digital out-of-home networks.

Dean Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at Route Media, said: “These new locations are a significant addition to our network. Culverhouse Cross and Queensgate are two of Cardiff’s most recognisable commuter locations, giving brands an opportunity to be seen by thousands of people every single day.

“As demand for Digital Out of Home continues to grow, we’re committed to investing in premium locations that deliver real impact. This expansion is another step in our long-term vision to build the strongest digital advertising network in Wales.”

Debra James, Section Leader for PTE Business Improvements at Cardiff Council, said: “Working with Route Media on this project has been a positive experience. The team has been professional, responsive, and supportive throughout, and the installation was completed efficiently and to a high standard.

“We are pleased with the outcome and look forward to working together again in the future.”

The latest investment reflects continued growth in digital out-of-home advertising, where campaigns can be updated instantly in response to live events, audience behaviour, time of day and changing messaging requirements, giving brands and organisations greater flexibility than traditional outdoor media.

Alongside expanding its digital infrastructure, Route Media continues to work with a growing portfolio of national brands, local authorities and public sector organisations, while partnerships with Cardiff City FC and Swansea City AFC further demonstrate the versatility of the platform for real-time marketing and fan engagement.

The new Cardiff locations form part of an ongoing investment programme, with further premium digital sites planned across Wales and Northern Ireland as the company continues to expand its technology-enabled advertising network.

Dean added: “This isn’t just about adding more screens; it’s about creating better opportunities for businesses to connect with audiences in the moments that matter. We’re excited to continue investing in Cardiff and beyond as our network grows.”
