Denbighshire-based Wynne Construction is celebrating 100 years of excellence, commitment, and growth, as it looks toward the future with renewed ambition.
Founded in 1926 by Charles Wynne, the fourth-generation business has expanded from its roots in public-sector housing into a leading innovative, multi-sector contractor, now delivering landmark projects across education, healthcare, leisure, and commercial developments.
Under the leadership of managing director, Chris Wynne, the company has experienced substantial and sustainable growth increasing its turnover by 250 per cent in the past two years.
Last year, the firm earned recognition as one of Walesâ 50 fastest growing businesses.
Since its inception, Wynne Construction has helped strengthen and enhance communities and public services with high-profile and technically demanding schemes.
These include the multi-million-pound transformation of Bodelwyddan Castle into an outstation for the National Portrait Gallery, the redevelopment of Coleg Cambriaâs Wrexham city centre campus, and the delivery of clinical schools at Wrexham Maelor, Ysbyty Gwynedd, and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Current multi-million-pound schemes include the Specialist Resource Base at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf in Cardiff, the leisure and wellbeing centre in Newport, the Kings Moat Primary school in Chester, and the extensions for orthopaedic services at Llandudno General Hospital.
Chris Wynne said: âReaching our centenary is a remarkable milestone.
âOur success today is built not only on the dedication, expertise, and passion of every member of our team, but also on the strong foundations laid by my late father, Maldwyn and his father Charles, whose hard work and vision helped establish the business and the values that have guided us for the past 100 years.
âWith my sons David and Richard now as directors, Iâm confident we will continue to enhance our services, strengthen our efficiency, and broaden our appeal year after year, while delivering sustainable growth for generations to come.
âEven more importantly, I hope we continue to hear encouraging feedback from our clients, many of whom value and recognise our dedication to providing outstanding support, not just during project delivery, but long after as well.â
Having been introduced to the family business more than 40 years ago under his father Maldwynâs leadership, Chris recalls that Wynne Construction has always been committed not only to expanding its operations, but also to delivering excellence in customer experience and care.
He added: âWhen I first joined the business, we were typically managing around three schemes at a time. Today, we have approximately 20 active sites across Wales and North West England, which is a remarkable achievement.â
A key focus for the company is sustainability, with Wynne Construction reducing its scope one and two carbon emissions by more than 50 per cent, as part of its roadmap to achieving net-zero by 2040.
The firm continually enhances its offerings through dedication and by valuing its supply chain partners.
Investing in initiatives such as the Team-Approved Supply Chain (TASC) Development programme ensure that both partners and staff are closely aligned with Wynneâs values, strengthening collaboration and delivering excellence across every project.
Chris added: âOur vision extends beyond building projects. Through the Wynne Futures Foundation, we continue to create career pathways for the next generation, engage local subcontractors, and deliver meaningful social value in the communities we serve.â
To mark its centenary, the company will host a staff celebration, plant 100 trees with local biodiversity groups, and support charities such as Maggieâs Cancer Centres and North Wales Superkids through a year of fundraising events, underscoring its ongoing commitment to community, sustainability, and excellence.â
